Welcome to my expanding collection of pattern cutting and sewing guides. Whether you are creating a simple skirt, a fitted bodice, tailored trousers, a sleeve variation, or a structured jacket, these guides are designed to help you develop professional pattern-making and sewing skills and gain confidence in creating your own designs.
My many years of experience in designing women’s garments and tailoring, has taught me that pattern cutting and garment construction are extensive subjects that cannot be fully covered in a single guide.
Pattern cutting is the foundation of garment design. Every successful garment begins with a well-drafted block (also known as a sloper or basic pattern), which represents the body’s shape without design details. From these basic blocks, an endless variety of styles can be developed through the application of pattern adaptation and dart manipulation techniques.

The techniques presented throughout these guides form the foundation of professional pattern cutting. Mastering the basic blocks and understanding dart manipulation will allow you to create countless original designs while maintaining proper fit and garment balance.
Take time to practise each exercise carefully. As your confidence develops, you will discover that every fashion design begins with the same principle: understanding how to control shape, volume and fit through the pattern itself.
Pattern cutting is both a technical skill and a creative process. The more familiar you become with the blocks and the manipulation techniques within these guides, the greater your ability to transform simple foundations into unique and professionally constructed garments.
However, if you prefer a more personal experience why not try one of my courses where you can be taught in person!
